How to Spot Unconscious Beliefs

Your first thought upon reading this blog post title is probably – how can we spot unconscious beliefs when they’re unconscious?

But I’m here to tell you it’s possible. And when you learn to see unconscious beliefs, you’ll glean so much insight, depth, and understanding into who you are and why things are the way they are.

Unconscious beliefs are usually hard to deal with because they make us feel powerless and stuck as if someone else is running the show. Because essentially, someone else is running the show.

These beliefs are so deeply ingrained and embedded in our unconscious. They have so much power over our ability to move forward and create change.

And even when you become trained and adopt the eye to spot these deeply held beliefs, it’s almost as if they get more subtle and powerful.

But when you do become trained to spot them, you become acutely aware of the power these sophisticated, strongly held ideas and concepts of the world have over us if left unattended.

When you learn and develop the process of seeing your unconscious beliefs regularly, it’s both freeing and challenging at the same time. Although ultimately enlightening, our ego and identity get a huge readjustment when you develop this process. The ego will work very hard to prove its rightness. You’ve probably heard the saying, “Would you rather be right or happy?” You can’t have both.

In my years of working within these realms, I have found that the two hardest healing concepts to grasp are forgiveness and working in the world of projections and mirrors. But it’s working within these concepts where we spot our unconscious beliefs.

And like many things, quite often, our most challenging obstacles can also be our biggest gateways to attainment, embodying our gifts, and living our purpose.

Projections

I’ve discussed forgiveness a few times in other blogs, so now let’s talk about projections. This is really about how life is your teacher, sage or mirror into your unconscious. This strategy is the key to seeing and transforming your unconscious beliefs.

Time and again I have heard things like, “There’s no way my partner is my mirror because he never wants to talk and I do.”

At this point, I usually explain that if you drop down to a deeper level of truth and observation, we have the opportunity to see where the quality of communication is the mirror, not the actual action – same coin, different side, so what is externally expressed or acted out tends to look quite different – even though it’s a direct mirror for you.

This idea of projections (or life being your mirror) is simply a crystal ball into your unconscious beliefs. It’s like seeing what is, versus what you want or don’t want.

We tend to argue with what is because it’s not what we want. It’s ironic though, because it ends up being exactly what our unconscious beliefs are creating and committed to, even though it may look like a complete contradiction.

You’re probably not going to like hearing this, but if you’re triggered, charged, or uncomfortable – and/or it’s reoccurring – it’s about you and never about what is happening around you. I hate to say it, but this idea of asking, “Whose belief, pain, or struggle am I taking on?” is bullshit.

Carl Jung, coined the term “collective unconscious” to signify the beliefs we hold based on what others (family, friends, society etc) have taught us. These limiting beliefs, stuck energy, or dysfunctional behaviours all stem from looking outside of us for answers, meaning, purpose. We accepted other people’s ideas and beliefs about how life is supposed to be or not be.

Basically, if you took it on, it’s yours. It not right or wrong or good or bad – it just is. Trying to escape, or bypass this reality and/or place blame on someone else for what you are experiencing will just make the voice louder or the situation bigger next time in an attempt to get your full attention.

If you find yourself in a reoccurring situation, even if the circumstances around the situation are different and they also obviously point to issues that other people have, the fact that it’s reoccurring means it is about you. You might have issues with your staff, neighbours, or tenants, but if something similar keeps happening, it’s there for you. It is a call to take a deeper look at your ego attachments and unconscious beliefs so that you can step into a truer, more authentic version of yourself.

Until you get this key understanding, you’ll create and recreate situations over and over. Life is always nudging and supporting your conscious evolution. Until you fully bring your limited patterns and beliefs out from the shadows into the light, or from the unconscious to the conscious, they will be in the way of your complete happiness, growth, and fulfillment.

Prior to them coming out into the open, they create ripples, drama, struggle, and a sense of just not achieving what you want. Your best life is always just out of reach for some reason or excuse, even if it seems legitimate.

If those beliefs weren’t there, the situation would be different. When you are capable of having your best life, you will have it, and not before.

In my course, Evolve Beyond Your Story, I’ve created an entire section on beliefs. I share a workbook that breaks down your life situations into the beliefs that are affecting you and then breaks it down further into the core belief that is running the show.

Life is awesome, it tells it like it is. It’s like that friend who tells you when something is on your face instead of letting you walk around all day with it there.

So when we become aware of a stickiness, struggle, fear, or block, it’s only creation’s way of letting you know you have an unconscious belief that’s not serving your happiness and needs your attention.

The best news ever is that whatever we bring into the light and into our consciousness, gets transformed.

Rejoice when you feel stuck. Do your work and consciously make a choice. Surrender it to your higher power. You can simply say wow, look at what I created. And know that awareness brings transformation – period!

Your higher power, your divine intelligence, the essence of who you are knows exactly what to do. You are enough. You are complete. You are resourceful at your core, and this innate power creates miracles (if we can get out of our own way and allow it to happen).

If you’re facing the grip of old resentments that are keeping you stuck and frustrated, my course, Evolve Beyond Your Story, is a radical approach to experiencing freedom beyond struggle. Click here to apply or learn more: https://theothersideofaverage.com/EBYS
