There is a power inside of us that opens the door to wellness and holds all the treasures we seek, but many of us would rather not look at it. Distracted and buried under a mountain of stress, we believe the path to healing can be found through a Google search – what guru or doctor can help me heal? What is the latest diet trend?

The problem is, the path to healing does not exist outside ourselves. Our bodies are not what need healing – they are merely messengers of pain and fear that need to be heard and understood. If we listen close enough, they give us clues and if we don’t listen at all, they resort to shouting in the form of sickness and dis-ease.

What helps us listen and open up to our natural healing response is meditation. The power of meditation allows us to be a part of our own healing, to partner with it, rather than give it away. Through meditation, we can release the emotional blockages that lead to physical blockages, and uncover the power within by stripping away the layers our ego, mind, and intellect have built up.

When we have the strategies to listen deeply to our body’s own inner intelligence, we have the power to heal ourselves.

The Power of Meditation to Heal the Body

Meditation is the most direct way to experience inner silence, presence, joy, and healing. Studies show it has a powerful effect on the way we react to external stressors, increasing our resilience to stress in ways that other forms of relaxation can’t. Meditating for even thirty minutes can provide more psychological rest than a full night’s sleep.

Yes, life still happens, regardless of whether we have a meditation practice in place – but how we respond to it changes. It alleviates stress and anxiety and allows us to respond to stressors that arise, rather than react to them from the place our well-worn patterns live.

Right now, we’re living in a time where stress is on the rise. Increasingly, doctors are citing stress as a contributing factor to most illnesses. Many of us are searching for peace of mind, and unfortunately, using drinking, stress eating, and medication to find it.

But the problem is, much of our stress is caused by a build-up of old wounds and beliefs that we have not been able to free ourselves from. Holding onto these old beliefs creates stress, which has been associated with chronic inflammatory conditions in the body, creating chronic, long-term disease.

Instead of being consciously aware of our old wounds and beliefs with openness and inquisitiveness, we stifle what needs tending to. By bringing old beliefs and fears to the surface, they can be embraced and transformed for healing.

Meditation is what allows us to observe these old thoughts, and decide if we want each one and the baggage each creates. More specifically, Transcendent Meditation can help you discover the body’s own inner intelligence, allowing you to restore your body’s innate ability to heal.

Transcendent Meditation is not another “quick-fix” and should not be considered a cure for all physical disease. However, it’s been shown to benefit a wide range of health problems caused by stress and fatigue, allowing our minds and bodies to function effectively, creating vitality and happiness.

Using Transcendent Meditation for Healing

Most people find themselves struggling with meditation because they believe they must force their mind to be quiet, and can’t stop the whirring of their thoughts. They try doing yoga or installing new meditation apps. But meditation is about awareness – it’s about discovering the silence that is already inside of us, and becoming more aware of it.

Transcendent Meditation is a unique way of using the mind in a way that transcends the human conditioned mind and emotions that keep us stuck. It prevents us from reliving old patterns that lead to stress and illness. It’s used with a personal mantra to help us journey to the center of our being, where we find emotional freedom.

It’s not outside our power to heal ourselves. There is a life beyond our physical and emotional stress, but it requires an inner journey. It requires us to open a dialog with ourselves and weave silence and stillness into our mind and body.

We can do both of these things with meditation and inquiry practices. These two practices work together to move stuck, emotional and energetic blocks to revive presence. They have the power to detoxify our cells and lymphatic systems, and help us open up our own healing response.

Transcendent Meditation has been found to:

—Reverse aging at the cellular level
—Heal depression and anxiety
—Decrease addictive behaviour
—Strengthen immune function
—Stimulate the body’s self-repair mechanisms
—Dissolve reactive patterns in our lives

What would it feel like to play a part in your own healing? Who would you be without your pain or ill health?

We have more power to heal ourselves than we realize, and Transcendent Meditation gives us the ability to observe, change, and release redundant thoughts, as well as change our biology and genetics, only 5% of which is fixed. Each day is a process of opening, building and expanding on the previous day, bringing more grace and awareness.

Meditation and Self-Inquiry

When we feel supported and employ our body’s innate healing abilities to restore and repair us, they can go to work for us. When was the last time you enlisted the help of your inner healer?

Given the right environment, your body has the miraculous ability to heal. Having personally experienced my own healing journey through the use of meditation, I can say that our capacity to heal depends on our willingness to believe in our healing and to see it happening.

I encourage you to open up a dialogue between you and yourself. Engage your beliefs and fears in conversation regarding your well-being. If we don’t bring these feelings to the surface and into conscious awareness, they will continue to affect us in destructive ways.

It’s important to realize that all of our resentments and built-up anger have an agenda. When these old beliefs and fears aren’t questioned, they have control over our actions, and we can feel trapped in our circumstances.

Self-inquiry is a good place to start in bringing old wounds to the surface for healing. Ask:

In what areas of my life do I feel stress regularly?
—What is my greatest fear?
—What beliefs do I have about my body’s ability to heal itself?
—What beliefs do I carry about my illness?
—Who would I be if I were fearless?

Once you bring these feelings to the surface, they can be embraced and transformed. And meditation allows us to observe these feelings with childlike wonderment and detached curiosity. We can observe our thoughts and become conscious choice makers, using our mind the way it was intended, rather than letting our thoughts run wild and create dis-ease.

You Are Here for a Reason

Remember, it’s no accident that you are here on this journey. Byron Katie says, “Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late.”

If we don’t listen to the signals our body sends us, it will continue to shout at us to get our attention, and we perpetuate the struggle.

We must learn to partner with our healing journey, rather than giving it to someone else to manage. Nothing outside of us can save us, and no one technique is right for everyone.

Healing requires weaving silence and stillness into our mind and body. When we do, we find the one who is thinking our thoughts – our true selves. Once this discovery process begins, we can unravel our past to restore balance to our minds and bodies, and learn what it means to truly heal ourselves.
